Outreach & Communication

Science Y'all is the graduate student blog for the Jackson School of Geosciences, which features podcasts and posts about all aspects of graduate student life. I am the head of social media, and you can find our Twitter here. We are always looking for 200-600 word submissions from students!

The Geoscience Ambassadors program uses storytelling for change to cultivate a larger and more diverse geoscience community.

LGBTQ+ Experiences in Geoscience

The first survey collecting demographic data on LGBTQ+ individuals in geoscience was published in 2020 by Olcott & Downen. There is a huge gap in our knowledge base: What are the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in geoscience? I'm hoping to investigate this question through qualitative interviews alongside Dr. Adam Papendieck. (Image credit to Pradthana Jarusriboonchai/Getty Images)

At Rutgers University, I was the president for Out in STEM, a professional and community-building organization for LGBTQ+ students in STEM!

I interned with the Rutgers Geology Museum as an undergraduate student, through which I had the opportunity to write the geologic context for the VirtualGEO project, which provides accessible, virtual field trips by using drone footage and written context.

As a communications intern at EarthScope (previously UNAVCO), I learned Illustrator to produce new stickers and posters for the organization's rebrand, interviewed and wrote blog posts about my fellow interns, managed the social media, and edited a video to advertise the undergraduate research program RESESS.

Before entering graduate school, I took a gap year in Seattle, WA and tutored international baccalaureate math and science courses at Rainier Beach High School through the non-profit organization, Tutors Impacting Public Schools.
